Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) is to take the oath of office as the
sixth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The following is the text
of President Ahmadinejad's oath according to the Article 121 of the
Constitutions: "In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, "I, as
President, swear in the presence of the Noble Qur'an and the people of Iran,
by God, the Exalted and Almighty, that I will guard the official religion of
the country, the order of the Islamic Republic and the Constitution of the
country; that I will devote all my capacities and abilities to the
fulfillment of the responsibilities that I have assumed; that I will
dedicate myself to the service of the people, the honor of the country, the
propagation of religion and morality, and the support of truth and justice,
refraining from every kind of arbitrary behavior; that I will protect the
freedom and dignity of all citizens and the rights that the Constitution has
accorded the people that in guarding the frontiers and the political,
economic, and cultural independence of the country I will not shirk any
necessary measure; that, seeking help from God and following the Prophet of
Islam and the infallible Imams (peace be upon them), I will guard, as a
pious and selfless trustee, the authority vested in me by the people as a
sacred trust, and transfer it to whomever the people may elect after me."
The swearing-in ceremony for President Ahmadinejad started in the Majlis
Saturday morning. Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi,
President Ahmadinejad and Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel are to
deliver speeches during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected
president. Former president Mohammad Khatami, the Expediency Council
Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, members of the Guardian Council, members
of the Experts Assembly, ranking civilian and military officials and foreign
diplomatic corps in Iran are attending the ceremony. The Supreme Leader of
the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei confirmed presidency of
Ahmadinejad Wednesday according to Article 110 of the Constitution. In the
decree, the Leader said, "Of course the vote of the nation and my
confirmation is valid as long as he (Ahmadinejad) moves in line with his
obligations and treads the right path he has followed so far -- the path of
Islam and the ideals of the Islamic system and defending the rights of the
nation and resistance against oppressors." The Leader further said, "The
ninth (presidential) election served as a blow by the Iranian nation on the
face of enemies who consider democracy originated from Islamic faith as
something disturbing the charm of their anti-Islamic propaganda... "Islamic
Iran, once again showed its resolve, joy and livelihood as well as its
meaningful and blessed presence in the scene to the arrogant powers, making
the Great Satan disillusioned and frustrated." According to Majlis
regulations, the president must introduce his cabinet within two weeks of
his swearing-in ceremony, following which the legislators would start the
debate on the competency of the nominees. In case some candidates are
rejected by Majlis, the president must introduce new nominees within a
